1.What is an eBike?

An eBike (or an electric bicycle) is a conventional bicycle that has been enhanced with the addition of an electric motor.  Your eBike will assist you with extra power when you are pedalling hard up a hill or into the wind.  However, the eBike will also work just as well without the power for times when you do not require it.

  1. What are the advantages of an eBike?

They are economical - As it only costs around 5 to 20p worth of electricity to charge their battery, think how much money you will save rather than buying petrol!  Running costs are also extremely low as there is no need for MOT, Road Tax and Insurance.  The only costs you might incur are replacing parts of your bike like the tyres or brakes, for which you will  pay the prices of standard bicycle parts.

You'll keep fit - Riding a bike improves your fitness and gets you out in the fresh air, undoubtedly improving your wellbeing.  Realistically though people aren't inclined to use a bike if the route is hilly or into the wind.  The good news with eBikes is that they provide you with that extra push, so you'll always feel comfortable going out on your eBike.

They are environmentally friendly - eBikes are emission free, so your daily commute or  journey to the shops won't be contributing to your carbon footprint.  What's more, an eBike is twice as fast as a car in rush hour, so your commute will also be quicker and stress-free.

You'll have fun! - eBikes allow  you to have fun on  a bike despite the weather or hills.  You won't need to exert too much energy if you don't want, but you'll also have the option of challenging yourself if you want.

  1. How long will the battery last?

As a rough estimate, you can get about 20 to 80 miles out of a full battery.  However, this mileage will depend on a number of factors including the level of assistance you use, the terrain you are riding on, your weight and the amount of effort you put in!

Due to UK law guidelines, electric bikes can only assist you up to 15mph.  However you can pedal or freewheel faster than this if you wish.
